PSCI: GT Corse delivers a perfect weekend in Valencia

Borja García and Álvaro Bajo shared Sunday victories, completing a historic clean sweep for the Spanish team in Round 3 of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica.

With ambient temperatures close to 30 degrees Celsius, track temperatures exceeding 35 degrees, low humidity and thousands of spectators attending the Ricardo Tormo Circuit facilities – including many Porsche owners and enthusiasts, highlighted by the strong presence of the GT Marbella delegation attending an official tour – the final day of Round 3 of the 2026 Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica delivered two more highly competitive Sprint races.

From a sporting perspective, GT Corse achieved a simply perfect result. The Spanish team secured all four pole positions, won all four Sprint races and also recorded all four fastest laps of the weekend, completing a historic clean sweep.

Borja García wins Race 3 after another display of dominance

Just as he had done in Race 1, Borja García took control immediately after the rolling start of Race 3. The Valencian GT Corse driver set a pace that none of his rivals could match, becoming the only driver all weekend to break the 1m17s barrier by setting the fastest lap of the race in 1m16.961s. At the chequered flag, García held a comfortable advantage of 4.6 seconds over the second-placed driver, securing another overall victory and another Silver class triumph. Behind the leader, the battle for second place provided entertainment throughout much of the 20 minutes plus one lap race.

Patrick Cunha (Veloso Motorsport) and Miguel Lobo (RGB Racing Team) engaged in an intense and relentless duel. Lobo tried everything to pass the Veloso Motorsport driver, but Cunha defended brilliantly, securing another second-place finish and another Bronze class victory. Miguel Lobo was ultimately rewarded with a well-deserved third place on the podium, finishing just 1.4 seconds behind Cunha. Diego Carrascal Vega was also part of this battle for part of the race, but an incident delayed the GT Corse driver, who nevertheless recovered to finish fourth.

Just behind came Francisca "Kika" Queiroz (LOB Motorsport), whose consistency earned her another Ladies Cup victory. The Portuguese driver finished ahead of Finland's Flame Airikkala (AF Motorsport), who crossed the line sixth, while João Macedo Silva (RGB Racing Team) finished immediately behind the Finnish driver. Airikkala and Macedo Silva exchanged positions several times during the race, but the AF Motorsport driver prevailed, helped by a five- second penalty handed to the Portuguese driver for repeated track limits infringements.

Álvaro Bajo capitalises on Barambio penalty and completes GT Corse clean sweep

Starting from pole position, Alejandro Barambio Perea took the lead after the rolling start and immediately began building a small advantage over the chasing pack. Behind him, Álvaro Bajo was defending from the attacks of Jorge Rodrigues (Veloso Motorsport), creating one of the most entertaining battles of the early stages.

However, the course of the race changed when the Stewards imposed a drive-through penalty on Barambio Perea. The officials considered that the GT Corse driver had assumed an incorrect position during the rolling start procedure, repositioning himself behind the Safety Car before the official start signal and interfering with the trajectory of other competitors. The penalty dropped Barambio to fifth position and effectively ended his hopes of victory.

At the front, Álvaro Bajo inherited the lead and never looked back. The Spanish driver built an advantage of more than six seconds over Jorge Rodrigues while also setting the fastest lap of the race in 1m17.117s. The victory gave him his second win of the weekend and another Silver class triumph. Jorge Rodrigues comfortably secured second place overall, earning Veloso Motorsport a valuable podium finish and the Bronze class victory.

The battle for third place, however, captured much of the attention in the closing stages. Francisca Queiroz and Chloe Grant (AF Motorsport) fought intensely for the final podium position and for victory in the Ladies Cup. The Portuguese driver resisted multiple attacks from the young British racer and crossed the finish line just 480 thousandths of a second ahead, sealing an outstanding third overall position. With this result, Francisca Queiroz completed the Valencia round with three victories from the four Ladies Cup races contested.

José Monroy dedicates Valencia round to Rui Miritta

At the end of the event, Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica Series Manager José Monroy highlighted the highly competitive nature of the weekend: “Valencia once again demonstrated everything that defines the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica: closely fought racing, a fantastic atmosphere both on and off track, a large crowd, many Porsche owners present and a paddock full of life”;

Monroy also took the opportunity to dedicate the round to Rui Miritta, driver for Monteiros Competições and a much-loved member of the PSCI family: “I would like to dedicate this round to Rui Miritta. He is a driver who is very dear to all of us and a very important member of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica family. We know he is facing a difficult period following the serious road accident he recently suffered and we are all hoping for a full and speedy recovery. We look forward to welcoming him back as soon as possible.”

The Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica now enters a well-deserved summer break. The championship will return from September 11th to 13th for Round 4 at Circuit Ángel Nieto in Jerez de la Frontera.
