Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica raises intensity in Estoril with fiercely contested qualifying sessions in front of a packed crowd

The Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica experienced another important competitive chapter of the Estoril round this Saturday, in a day marked by strong public attendance, a highly international atmosphere and two intensely competitive qualifying sessions at the historic Cascais circuit. Throughout the day, the Estoril Circuit welcomed a true “full house”, with a strong presence of Porsche enthusiasts and owners who responded enthusiastically to the organization’s invitation to help elevate the weekend atmosphere.

Between the paddock and the VIP Village Lounge, the environment reflected a truly international level, where glamour, lifestyle, entertainment and passion for the Porsche universe naturally came together, reinforcing the premium identity of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica.

On track, the competitive program once again confirmed the high level of balance that characterizes the 2026 season, with changing weather conditions between both sessions adding an extra technical challenge for drivers and teams. Borja García secures poles for Races 1 and 3 in wet qualifying session Qualifying 1 was marked by particularly difficult conditions, with a fully wet track and low grip levels throughout the entire session. Under the 2026 sporting regulations, the fastest laps from Qualifying 1 define the starting grid for Sunday’s Race 1, while each driver’s second-fastest lap determines the grid for Race 3, adding an important strategic element to session management.

In the fight for pole position for Race 1, Borja García (GT Corse) once again confirmed the strong pace shown since Monteblanco, setting the fastest lap of the session in 1:55.657. The Spanish driver beat José Barros (AF Motorsport) by 2.226 seconds, while Patrick Cunha (Veloso Motorsport) secured third overall and the best position among Bronze drivers. Chloe Grant (AF Motorsport), the highest-placed Ladies Cup driver, and João Macedo Silva (RGB Racing Team) completed the Top 5.

In the definition of the grid for Race 3 through the second-fastest laps of the session, Borja García once again topped the standings, demonstrating impressive consistency in particularly demanding conditions. Patrick Cunha once again stood out by securing second on the grid, followed by José Barros.

Chloe Grant was once again the top Ladies Cup driver, repeating fourth position, while Duarte Camelo (LOB Motorsport) completed the Top 5. Jorge Rodrigues and Álvaro Bajo split poles in highly competitive Qualifying 2 Qualifying 2 presented a very different scenario, with dry track conditions and significantly higher grip levels, allowing a major drop in lap times and minimal gaps between the front-running drivers.

As established in the 2026 sporting regulations, the fastest laps of the session defined the grid for Race 2, while the second-fastest laps determined the starting order for Race 4. In the fight for pole position for Race 2, Jorge Rodrigues (Veloso Motorsport) stood out by setting the fastest lap of the day so far in Estoril with a 1:53.755. The Portuguese driver beat Henrique Cruz (LOB Motorsport) by just 0.142 seconds, while José Barros (AF Motorsport) secured third position.

Álvaro Bajo and Alejandro Barambio, both representing GT Corse, completed Top 5. In the definition of the Race 4 grid through the second-fastest laps, Álvaro Bajo secured pole position by beating Jorge Rodrigues by only 32 thousandths of a second, clearly demonstrating the extremely competitive balance throughout the field. José Barros once again placed himself among the fastest drivers, followed by Henrique Cruz and Alejandro Barambio. The Ladies Cup once again played a strong competitive role, with Francisca Queiroz securing the best starting position for Race 2 and Flame Airikkala doing the same for Race 4.

The competitive program continues this Sunday with four Sprint races of 20 minutes plus one lap, two with standing starts and two with rolling starts, in an especially intense format that promises to maintain the high competitive level and spectacle demonstrated throughout this first day of action in Estoril.
