Francisco Mora added, this Sunday afternoon, his second triumph in the fourth round of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica (PSCI), at the Estoril Autódromo, achieving the full finish in an almost perfect weekend, after Saturday’s victory – the incident in the first race with Pedro Salvador was under analysis by the sports commissioners – having been confirmed. The Veloso Motorsport driver once again outperformed both Manuel Alves and Vasco Barros, the same direct opponents from the previous day.
Pedro Salvador, who was once again in the discussion of first places, withdrew, following a “touch” with Miguel Lobo, leaving Estoril without the points they so badly needed to remain in the discussion of the “title” at PSCI. This second race was also very “hectic”, in terms of overtaking and warm clashes… with some “touches” in the mix, as happened on the first lap, between Aloísio Monteiro (GD) and Gonçalo Fernandes (AM), the first two withdrawals.
With Francisco Mora firmly in the lead, seconded by Pedro Salvador and Manuel Alves, Vasco Barros and Miguel Lobo tried not to lose contact with that trio. And after the intervention of the Safety Car was necessary on the sixth lap, which allowed the peloton to regroup, an incident happened that had Pedro Salvador and Miguel Lobo as protagonists and dictated the withdrawal of both. “Now I am satisfied. It was a good race and I thank the Veloso Motorsport team for the great job done on the car.
It turned out to be a good operation at PSCI level, with two wins and I now know that Pedro [Salvador] had an accident with another rider, which makes me more comfortable in the standings”, confessed Mora, while Manuel Alves he summed up: “I tried to pass Kiko Mora and Pedro, but after the latter’s accident, Kiko gained an advantage and it was important to maintain second position, which allows me to reinforce second place in the competition”. Vasco Barros repeated his third place on the previous day and was still satisfied. “It ended up going well, but I think this Iberian Porsche Sprint Challenge is getting a little ‘hectic’, as there are too many ‘touches’ and overtaking that shouldn’t happen. Something has to be done to calm people down and preserve the good environment…”, commented the young LOB Motorsport driver.
The fight for victory in the AM category was spectacular, with Leandro Martins, Ian Barret and José Barros taking charge, with the latter recovering from 20th overall to 5th to cross the finish line in first place. However, he ended up penalized in the end by 25 seconds, for overtaking in the yellow flag zone, thus falling to sixth place in the category. Ian Barrett celebrated in the highest place on the podium, facing André Fernandes and Leandro Martins.
In the GD category, João Posser dominated from end to end: “It was a spectacular race and I achieved my objective, which was to win”. Here too, there were drivers penalized for overtaking in the yellow flag zone, as was the case with the British Frank Barrett, who therefore dropped from second to third, allowing the ascension of Manuel Chinchilla. Rui Miritta was still in that fight, but it would end, in the confusion of overtaking in the part end of the race, for being overtaken and… also penalized. On his birthday, BigGeorge (Jorge Figueiredo) couldn’t be happier for finishing the race.
