The iconic Ricardo Tormo circuit will host the fourth double round of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica 2024 next weekend, as part of another NAPA Racing Weekend, organised by the Real Federación Española de Automovilismo. 15 drivers will be competing for points, which, with three races remaining in the season, are increasingly valuable in the fight for the titles to be awarded in the three Groups of the competition promoted by P21 Motorsport.
The competition is getting more and more intense, and the points up for grabs in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica races are increasingly ‘expensive’, the second edition of which has been the focus of drivers from various countries and continents. This time, in the fourth double round of 2024, four nations and two continents will be represented and will face a weekend of great action.
On Saturday, the morning will be reserved for two free practice sessions, both lasting 40 minutes, with Qualifying taking place in the early afternoon, with the Porsche “armada” having 20 minutes to fight for positioning on the starting grid for Race 1, which is scheduled to start at 5:40 pm local time.
On Sunday, the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica will start with a ‘warm-up’ session shortly after 9 am, with Race 2 starting at 1:10 pm.
“We arrive in Valencia with everything still up for grabs in terms of the titles to be awarded and that means there will be a lot of fighting on the track”, highlights Jose Monroy, Series Manager at PSCI, who also highlights “the excellent list of participants, as was the case in previous rounds. I would like to highlight the fact that we continue to attract new drivers and we will continue working to make the championship even stronger. In fact, we are already preparing hard for the 2025 season, studying the best way to make the PSCI even more attractive, with our goal being to globalize even more, attracting more drivers and teams from all over the world.”
Who is stopping Manuel Alves?…
His six victories in the races already held in the 2024 edition of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica are a good example of how difficult it is to surpass Manuel Alves.
Obviously, this absolute lead in the races has been transformed by the LOB Motorsport driver into an isolated leader in the Group 991.2 standings, with a 50-point lead over his teammate Vasco Barros and 88 over Gonçalo Fernandes, in third place. There are still 159 points to be won, which allows his two closest rivals to still have a say in the title race and, race after race, they are two of Alves’ closest rivals in the overall race.
In this group, Valencia will have Tiago Gonçalves (Monteiro Competições) and David Gonçalves on the track, who will certainly try to get into the podium spots.
In Group 992, there will be 7 cars on the track, with the highlight being the absolute debut of the duo Alejandro Barambio Perea and Borja Garcia Menendez, in a Porsche from Equipo GT Corse.
They will face a top-quality squad, with the names of Spaniard Jorge Ramirez (RCG Racing Team) and Ukrainian Yuri Protasov, who races for the Hadeca team, standing out.
In addition to being candidates to fight for the overall Top 5 in both races, they have extra motivation due to the absence of Portuguese Ricardo Costa, current leader of the points table in Group 992, a former team-mate with Jorge Ramirez who could thus take the lead alone. But Yuri Protasov is only 8 points behind and also aims to overtake the opponents who precede him in the points table.
Colombian Juan Veja and Ukrainian Oleksandr Dobik, both from Hadeca, have also shown that they are capable of fighting for the top spots in the Group, as well as Portuguese André Fernandes (Monteiros Competições). It is expected that young Francisca ‘Kika’ Queiroz (Orbital Ignition Racing Team) will continue to demonstrate in Valencia the growing progress she has been showing.
As for the Group 991.1, Rui Miritta arrives at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit leading the championship. The Portuguese driver from Monteiros Competições has a 22.5 point lead over Filipe Nascimento and 53.5 over Alexandre Fonseca (Orbital Ignition Racing Team), with the trio going head to head in a double round that could reveal the outcome of the championship.
The two races of this fourth round of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica will be broadcast live on the championship’s official YouTube page.
