PSCI 2027 is already accelerating: 13 new Porsche 911 Cup cars

The 2026 season is still far from over, but behind the scenes at the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica, the future has already begun. P21 Motorsport, the championship organiser, has already confirmed, as of this August, the acquisition of 13 examples of the new 992.2- generation Porsche 911 Cup, which will make its PSCI debut in 2027.

It is a particularly significant figure with four months of the current year still remaining, and a powerful indication of the confidence teams and drivers are placing in the growth and future of the championship, with further cars currently under negotiation. More than intentions, these are concrete commitments. The purchase agreements for these cars include the requirement for them to compete in the 2027 and 2028 Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica seasons, already pointing towards a very significant presence of the new- generation Cup car on the grid over the next two years.

Teams make a strong commitment to the new generation

Among the teams that have already secured examples of the new Porsche are several of the most prominent names currently present in the PSCI paddock. AF Motorsport has acquired two cars, GT Corse one, LMR two, LOB Motorsport one, RGB Racing Team one and NACent Racing one. These eight team cars are joined by five units acquired individually by drivers: Nuno Inocêncio, who has purchased two, Lorenzo Medieta Sola, Asier Gorostiza and Luís Recuenda. In total, 13 new Porsche 911 Cup cars are already confirmed for 2027. The significance of these figures becomes even greater when combined with another important factor: the arrival of the 992.2 generation will not mean the immediate disappearance of the current 992.1 GT3 Cup cars from the championship.

The Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica will continue with the 992.1 generation, allowing teams and drivers to keep competing with a car that has provided the foundation for the championship’s remarkable sporting growth. At present, more than ten 992.1 cars are already expected for next season, spread across several of the teams currently competing in the championship. Skualo Competition will also be among them, continuing its participation in the championship in 2027.

The combination of the two generations is therefore already beginning to shape a potentially significant grid. Based solely on the commitments currently in place, more than twenty Porsche race cars are already projected to compete in the PSCI in 2027, with several months still remaining before preparations for the new season are finalised.

911 Cup: the new generation of Porsche one-make racing

The major innovation will, naturally, be the arrival of the 992.2-generation Porsche 911 Cup. Presented by Porsche Motorsport as the evolution of the highly successful 911 GT3 Cup, the new car has been developed around three fundamental objectives: increasing performance, keeping operating costs under control and simplifying its use for drivers and teams.

At its heart remains one of Porsche Motorsport’s defining signatures: the naturally aspirated 4.0-litre six-cylinder boxer engine, derived from the unit used in the road-going 911 GT3. In its new racing configuration, it produces 520 hp (382 kW) at 8,400 rpm, 10 hp more than its predecessor, and delivers 470 Nm of maximum torque at 6,150 rpm, with the engine capable of reaching 8,750 rpm. Power is transmitted through a Porsche six-speed sequential gearbox operated via paddle shifters and paired with a new four-disc racing clutch.

With a base weight of approximately 1,288 kg, the new 911 Cup also features extensively revised aerodynamics and incorporates a range of developments designed to improve performance and make the car easier to operate in a racing environment. The braking system has also undergone significant development, now featuring 380 mm front brake discs and, for the first time, competition ABS as standard.

It also includes an automatic engine restart function in the event of an accidental stall. In short, it is an evolution built upon the philosophy that has made the Porsche 911 a global benchmark in one-make racing: more performance, greater efficiency and an increasingly close connection between production technology and Motorsport.

José Monroy: “The numbers say a lot about what we are building”

For José Monroy, Series Manager of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica, the confirmations already secured represent a particularly strong signal for the future of the championship: “We are still only in August 2026 and we already have 13 examples of the new Porsche 911 Cup confirmed for next season. The numbers say a lot about what we are building and, above all, about the confidence that teams and drivers are placing in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica.” Monroy also highlights the importance of having both generations competing alongside each other: “2027 will represent a very important step. We will see the debut of the new 911 Cup 992.2, an extraordinary car that represents the latest evolution from Porsche Motorsport, but we will also continue to have a very strong presence from the current 992.1 cars. Everything points towards 2027 exponentially raising the bar for the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica.”

While the 2026 season prepares for its second half, P21 Motorsport is simultaneously continuing to define every detail of next year, with one major development already confirmed: an increase in track time throughout each round. The official 2027 Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica calendar will be announced shortly, revealing the circuits that will host what is already shaping up to be a highly anticipated season. 2027 has not started yet. But the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica grid is already accelerating.
