Francisco Mora will start from “pole position” for the first race, this Saturday afternoon (18:40 Lisbon time), of the second round of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica, at the Spanish circuit of Motorland, in Aragon, after having recorded the best time in qualifying 1, beating Manuel Alves by a margin of 0.227s and Pedro Salvador by 0.479. The Veloso Motorsport driver set the mark of 2.02.241 when only 7 of the 20 minutes reserved for defining the places on the grid had elapsed.
The young Manuel Alves would end up confirming the good indications left in the free sessions and guaranteeing a position in the front line, alongside the renowned Pedro Salvador who, despite all his determination and commitment, was 0.252s behind second place, although highlighted , among the PROAM pilots, by Vasco Barros, who already in the second half of qualifying would lose a place on the grid to Leandro Martins, the first among the AM.
The latter, by the way, had a curious dispute with the young José Barros for the primacy in that class, even after the latter had struggled with problems with his car’s engine in the morning free practice. Ricardo Costa was the third fastest in that dispute, beating the British Ian Barrett by a small difference. In absolute terms, in free practice Mora and Alves had already been the two names in the spotlight, as they recorded the best times in both sessions, one in each of them, with a greater difference in the first (1,752s), favorable to Mora, while in the second (1.040s) his rival also managed to reach the “second 2”, while Pedro Salvador ended, in absolute terms, as the third fastest.
In qualifying for the GD class, and similarly to the success in PROAM and AM, there were also lively duels, with Aloísio Monteiro having a final advantage, by hundredths, against the British Chris Hillaby, while Rui Mirita was third fastest, in front of Frank Barrett.
