Borja García Menéndez and José Barros shared the victories in the second round of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica at the Estoril Circuit, in a Sunday marked by extremely intense Sprint races, large crowds in the grandstands and paddock, and a strong presence of Porsche owners and enthusiasts.
Throughout the day, thousands of fans, guests, Porsche enthusiasts and owners visited the paddock and the VIP Village Lounge, contributing to an atmosphere filled with elegance, glamour and strong international identity. Between car displays, networking, premium hospitality and intense on-track action, Estoril experienced an atmosphere very close to the major international Porsche Motorsport one-make events. Good weather accompanied almost the entire competitive day, creating ideal conditions for the four Sprint races included in the second round of the 2026 season. Only the heavy rain that arrived during the decisive stages of Race 4 dramatically changed the competitive scenario.
Borja García and José Barros share the spotlight in a day of intense racing
In Race 1, Borja García confirmed the strong pace shown throughout the weekend, leading authoritatively from pole position to the checkered flag. The GT Corse driver also set the fastest lap of the race with a 1:41.438. Behind the winner, José Barros and Patrick Cunha produced one of the race’s main battles.
The Veloso Motorsport driver briefly climbed into second place, but Barros responded with a decisive overtaking move at the VIP Corner to reclaim the position and secure second place at the finish. Patrick Cunha completed an excellent third overall while also taking victory in the Bronze class. Chloe Grant once again stood out by finishing fourth overall and securing another Ladies Cup victory, while Duarte Camelo completed the Top 5 after overtaking João Macedo Silva in the closing stages of the race.
In Race 2, José Barros responded brilliantly. The AF Motorsport driver produced a spectacular start, overtaking Jorge Rodrigues and Henrique Cruz at Turn 1 to immediately take the lead. From there, Barros controlled the pace and secured a solid victory under constant pressure from the GT Corse drivers. Alejandro Barambio finished second, while Álvaro Bajo secured the first overall podium of his Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica career by finishing third. Francisca “Kika” Queiroz once again impressed by taking victory in the Ladies Cup and finishing inside the overall Top 5. Kevin King also continued to dominate the GD class.
Safety Car, intense duels and disqualifications shape the final two Sprint races
Race 3 once again placed Borja García at the top. The GT Corse driver controlled the race throughout, even after the only Safety Car intervention of the entire weekend, triggered by Asier Gorostiza stopping on the grid. Once again, Patrick Cunha and José Barros battled intensely for the leading positions, while Chloe Grant maintained an extremely competitive pace and consolidated her position among the fastest drivers in the field. Post-race, José Barros was disqualified, significantly altering the final classification.
As a result, Borja García secured another victory for GT Corse, joined on the podium by Chloe Grant (AF Motorsport), who not only finished second overall but also claimed another Ladies Cup victory, and Patrick Cunha (Veloso Motorsport), who once again won the Bronze class. Francisca “Kika” Queiroz and Duarte Camelo once again produced exciting battles just behind the podium positions, while Kevin King secured another victory in the GD class. Race 4 ultimately delivered one of the most spectacular moments of the season so far. With Álvaro Bajo, José Barros, Alejandro Barambio and Jorge Rodrigues separated by minimal margins, the fight for victory began immediately at Turn 1.
For much of the race, Álvaro Bajo resisted constant pressure from José Barros, but the arrival of rain completely transformed the competitive picture. The AF Motorsport driver showed remarkable pace in the difficult grip conditions and even managed to take the lead before the tyre change. However, José Barros was again disqualified. Henrique Cruz was likewise excluded from the final classification. As a result, Álvaro Bajo inherited the victory for GT Corse, joined on the podium by Alejandro Barambio Pereira, securing a one-two finish for the Spanish team, while Jorge Rodrigues moved up to third overall.
Francisca “Kika” Queiroz once again stood out by climbing to fourth overall while also securing another Ladies Cup victory. Kevin King completed a clean sweep of victories in the GD class throughout the Estoril weekend. Also noteworthy was another strong performance by Portuguese-American rookie Mário Reyford Ferreira, who once again secured a Top 10 overall finish.
Estoril reinforces the international growth of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica
Between intense racing, a packed paddock and a strong presence of guests and spectators, the Estoril round confirmed the sustained growth of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica as both a competitive and lifestyle platform within the Porsche Motorsport universe.
According to José Monroy, Series Manager of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica: “Estoril showed exactly what we want for the championship: intense racing, competitive balance, strong public attendance and a premium atmosphere aligned with Porsche DNA. We had a paddock full of life, many Porsche owners and fans at the circuit, excellent racing and tremendous interaction between drivers, teams, partners and guests. It was an extremely positive weekend for the consolidation of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica.”
The next round will take place at Circuit Ricardo Tormo, in Valencia, on June 12th, 13th and 14th.
