Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica attracts global talent: young American driver with Type 1 Diabetes tests in Estoril

The Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica continues to establish itself as a leading platform within the international motorsport landscape, attracting emerging talent from highly competitive markets such as the United States.

Round 2 of the 2026 season, taking place next weekend at the Estoril Circuit, will host another significant milestone in this global projection, with young American driver Collin Lloyd set to take part in a Porsche race car test. At just 18 years old, Lloyd is one of the rising names in American karting and is part of the T1D Racers program, an organization dedicated to supporting young drivers living with Type 1 Diabetes through motorsport.

Founded in Miami in 2017, T1D Racers has grown into an international platform, connecting drivers and families across multiple countries while promoting motorsport as a tool for inclusion, development and personal growth.

This opportunity represents an important step in Lloyd’s career progression. He has already achieved multiple national wins and championships in the United States, establishing himself among the most competitive drivers of his generation. Beyond performance, Lloyd also plays an active role as a mentor and ambassador, helping inspire other young athletes to overcome challenges. “This opportunity is about more than just a test. It shows that hard work and dedication can open doors internationally,” said Collin Lloyd. “Type 1 Diabetes is part of my life, but it doesn’t define my limits.”

According to José Monroy, Series Manager of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica, this presence reinforces the championship’s positioning: “Our ability to attract talent from markets such as the United States reflects the growth and international relevance of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica. But in this case, there is also a special meaning. It is very positive to welcome a young driver like Collin, who, beyond his talent on track, is also an example of resilience and an ambassador for an important cause. We want to be a platform where talent finds real opportunities, regardless of the challenges, and where stories like this can inspire others.”

The Estoril test could represent a turning point, potentially opening the door for Lloyd to compete in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica later in the 2026 season or in 2027, further strengthening the connection between the Iberian championship and the North American market.
