The Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica enters the 2026 season on the back of a highly active and strategically driven pre-season, culminating in a strong and competitive opening round at Monteblanco. The event in Huelva not only marked the start of a new championship campaign but also served as the natural culmination of months of sustained growth, media expansion and sporting development.
Between January and late April, the championship generated 127 media outputs across press and social platforms over a period of 79 days, averaging 1.6 publications per day. This consistent communication effort significantly strengthened the visibility of the series, its drivers, teams and partners, laying the foundation for what promises to be an highly competitive season.
Monteblanco (Round 1): the culmination of pre-season momentum
That momentum translated directly onto the track at the Monteblanco Circuit, where the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica officially launched its 2026 season with a grid that reflects both competitive depth and growing international reach. A total of 21 drivers representing 7 teams took part in Round 1, coming from 6 different nationalities across 2 continents, clear indicators of the championship’s expanding role within the Porsche Motorsport landscape.
On-track highlights: a perfectly balanced fight for victory
The opening round immediately delivered in sporting terms. Across four Sprint races, the fight for overall victories was perfectly balanced, with José Barros (AF Motorsport) and Borja García (GT Corse) sharing the wins, each securing two victories. Behind them, the level of competition remained consistently high. Miguel Lobo (RGB Racing Team) stood out for his consistency and strong presence in the Bronze class, while Alejandro Barambio and Álvaro Bajo (GT Corse) were regularly involved in the fight for podium positions. In Category 1, reserved for Porsche 991 machinery, María Sánchez Iglesias and João Macedo Silva (AF Motorsport) shared the victories, both drivers consistently finishing within the overall top ten. The Ladies Cup also delivered a competitive and balanced contest, with Francisca “Kika” Queiroz and Chloe Grant sharing the wins, while continuing to fight within the midfield pack.
High-intensity race format
The weekend structure once again proved to be one of the defining features of the championship. A full Saturday dedicated to preparation, including free practice and qualifying, was followed by a demanding Sunday featuring four Sprint races (20 minutes + 1 lap) within a six-hour window. A format that places maximum emphasis on consistency, adaptability and execution.
Expanding media visibility
The Monteblanco round also marked a significant step forward in media exposure. The championship benefited from pre-event television promotion through the Media Capital Group, followed by live race coverage on V+ in free-to-air broadcasting, further extending its reach and engagement with a broader audience.
